thesis

Posted in School at 1:14 pm by admin

so…hating the fact that i have to write a thesis because i’m burned on the school thing at this point. my interest and enthusiasm for this endeavor is in way to short a supply. even though the information and articles on leadership, volunteerism, and APLA are all interesting, figuring out how i’m supposed to put it all together with interviews and background info is completely beyond me.

jeez…

all-nighter

Posted in School at 9:07 am by admin

in all my years in school, i have never…EVER pulled an all-nighter. last night, all that changed. my final presentation was due this morning, and even though i had been working on it throughout the week, i spent the whole night (after dance practice) completing it. the energy drink i finished on my way to practice enabled me to stay up.

it was sometime after 4:30am when i decided i was pretty much done; i took a bath and dozed for a few minutes there. then i got in bed and slept for maybe another 30 minutes.

now, as i sit in class, slowing sipping my frappuccino, i’ve got that shaky feeling that i get when i’m in the negative on sleep.

the good news is that i’ve already done my presentation so, i’m done this class except for my self evaluation due to the professor by wednesday (i think). i’m kinda bummed because a lot of the animation i’d spent all night putting into my presentation didn’t even work when running it off of the professor’s laptop. that’s annoying and i’m sure she’ll mark me down for that. SUCKS!

GBA - work group

Posted in School at 8:18 am by admin

I don’t think Jill is working very well with our group. She’s not communicating clearly with us and when asked for information, she provides minimal feedback. She volunteered to create a website and we are supposed to put together a PowerPoint for our presentation, due Saturday. So far we haven’t seen what the site looks like, nor the background she was supposed to create for the PowerPoint.

I hope this is the only work I have to do with this group for this class.

MPA - 3rd Quarter

Posted in School at 10:37 am by admin

This quarter is going well, so far. Neither class is uber stressful (yet) and I’m keeping my fingers crossed that they both stay that way.

MPA 505 with Dr Bergman is interesting, she’s quite a character… and I just learned that she rides. Awesome!

GBA 656 with Dr Kupsh is a chore because it’s on Saturdays and I have to drive from home to get there, yuck. She’s mostly retired, lives in Nevada, and comes back to teach this class once a year, actually, she travels back and forth for the weekends. So far, I don’t understand why it’s a graduate-level class. Oh, but I won’t complain… a class that doesn’t stress me out to the point where my neck/back are in a constant state of pain is a class that I’m satisfied with.

Marathon of studying…the sequel

Posted in School at 11:17 pm by admin

Okay, so I made the trek to Maria’s today so that we could get squared away on our midterm stuff for this nightmare of a class. We got started about 10am and I left at 10pm!!! And that’s not the worst of it. Neither of us is too confident that we’ve gone in the right direction with analyzing the Wang reading, and after about an hour of compiling our ‘cheat sheet’ notes, we decided to sorta switch gears because we didn’t think Dr Emerson would be testing us on stuff straight out of the book, especially not after the SPSS output we’d done first-thing this morning.

A marathon of studying

Posted in School at 12:42 am by admin

Met Maria at Coffee Bean in Brea this afternoon. I got there right around 2pm; she got there about 20 minutes later. We worked through all the problems in SPSS that were giving us problems (from the last couple weeks) and then we did the chapter for this coming week. By the time we finished all of that, I’d had 2 tea latte’s and it was 9pm. I was planning to go dancing tonight, but getting through that work became much more important especially since we were able to help each other understand (or at least get through) parts that the other wasn’t getting. All in all, it was a productive day of studying.

Week 4

Posted in School, Uncategorized at 12:36 am by admin

Didn’t quite finish the reading before class, and didn’t finish the SPSS work either. But for whatever reason, the information was clicking. The class still sucks and I can’t wait for it to be over. Two weeks till midterms.

Week 3

Yeah, this class really sucks!! And it’s not even interesting. At least the classes last quarter were interesting and the professors were interesting. Quantitative methods, my ass!

According to her calcualtions we should be studying 16 additional hours per week, outside of the 4+ that she keeps us on Thursday nights. I could see an additional 8 hours… NOT 16.

Anyway, mid-terms coming up in a couple weeks… also got a paper to write and I’m supposed to be grasping this data analysis crap. We’ll see.

Week 2

Yep, it’s a tough class. Spurious relationships, confounding variables, mean, median and mode, R-squared…etc., etc. I know these things mean something, and that I should understand what that something is, but I don’t. At least not yet.

She didn’t give us a break until close to 9pm and I’d had to go to the bathroom so bad that I eventually had to just get up and leave the class…even when people started doing things like this, she didn’t cue in to the fact that we needed a break.

On a side note, she reminds me of my grandmother; her build, her hair, even some of her speech patterns are similar… I wonder if she’s originally from New York.
