Foodies
Listed here are some of my favorite eating estabilshments. Most are one-off type places (i.e. non chains) as I really prefer them to chains. When I do go to chain places, I tend to stick to salads, or dishes I think are pretty difficult to mess-up.
Sweetee Thai
Valley View
Cypress, CA
Gardena Ramen
at the corner of Western and 182nd
about as ‘hole-in-the-wall’ as you can get, but the Shoyu ramen is super yummy. cash only
The Kettle
1138 Highland Ave
Manhattan Beach CA 90266
www.the24hrkettle.com
usually a breakfast location for me; being that i’m not big on the eggs n bacon type stuff, i love the Sarah’s Favorite (seasonal fruit w/ granola, cottage cheese & a little honey) or their freshly made hone bran muffins. i’ve also tried the french onion soup; a tasty treat. their menu is quite extensive, it’s a casual coffee shop environment, but the food (i’ve tried) is better than your average coffee shop.
Cafe Corleone
Bellflower Blvd
Paramount CA
my dad has known the owners for years
Scardinos
Torrance Blvd
Torrance CA
the owners of Cafe Corleone used to own this place, thus far, the new owners have maintained the menu. my absolute favorite is the Pizza Quattro Gusti - tis a heavenly experience IMHO
Gale’s Restaurant
452 S Fair Oaks Ave
Pasadena CA 91105

another family favorite; my brother is credited with finding this gem. it’s great for slightly more upscale family dinners, or for a casually upscale date. comfortable atmosphere, not moderately pricey (IMO) but the food is oh so yummy
Paul’s Place
Los Alamitos, CA
the best fries, zucchini, and turkey burgers; large portions, if you walk out comfortably, you’ve missed the experience.
Petrillos Pizza
Valley Blvd
San Gabriel, CA
grew up on this pizza - what more can i say
Pepe’s
Valley Blvd
Alhambra, CA
grew up on their food - 2 block from my parents house. the bean & cheese burrito is way yummy and their taquitos are awesome as well.
The Crepe Place
Santa Cruz, CA
a must-have whenever visiting my brother
Upper Crust Pizza
Santa Cruz, CA
a must whenever visiting my brother
Lawry’s Prime Rib
http://www.lawrysonline.com
sometimes you just gotta have some prime rib… for me it’s their English Cut - 3 thin slices with creamed corn and yorkshire pudding
Mama’s Fish House
on Maui
“OH MY GAWD” - does not do this place justice. The food and the scenery are unforgettable, if you’re heading to the island, don’t miss it!
